Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Testing of hydrolysis of Small Vinyl Ester was performed according to OECD Guideline method 111 and EC test method C.7. The t1/2 was found to be strongly correlated to temperature and pH. For example, at pH 4 and at 20 °C the t1/2 was 37 days (the highest obtained in the experiment); while at pH 9 and 50 °C, the t1/2 was found to be 5 hours (the lowest obtained in the experiment).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
37 d
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Hydrolysis as a function of pH for Small Vinyl Ester was experimentally obtained by following the guidelines; OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals Method 111 Hydrolysis as a Function of pH and EU Method C.7 (Degradation: Abiotic Degradation: Hydrolysis as a function of pH). The measured recovery rates were not in the 70-110 % range, a recovery test was set up with 5 times lower concentration, which did not affect the recovery. Because the recovery was always in the same range and that hydrolysis is calculated using relative numbers, the analytical method was still found adequate.

The highest obtained half-life value was used as a key value for the chemical safety assessment.
