Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Small Vinyl Ester is not flammable in contact with water, neither has it pyrophoric properties in contact with air. Flammability testing is waived. Small Vinyl Ester does not contain chemical functional groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition in air and/or evolution of flammable gases in contact with water. Handling in the laboratory in connection with performance of other physico-chemical tests, including dissolution in water did not lead to any spontaneous reactions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Small Vinyl Ester does not contain chemical functional groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition of the substance in contact with water and/or to the evolution of a flammable gas. Small Vinyl Ester is only slightly soluble in water. In connection with determination of other physico-chemical properties, Small Vinyl Ester was dissolved (saturated solutions) in water without any spontaneous reactions. This demonstrates that Small Vinyl Ester does not ignite spontaneously in contact with water. It is evaluated that Small Vinyl Ester is not flammable.

Small Vinyl Ester does not contain chemical functional groups that might lead to ignition of Small Vinyl Ester in contact with air. Furthermore, Small Vinyl Ester was handled under normal laboratory conditions during the determination of other physico-chemical properties. This demonstrates that Small Vinyl Ester will not ignite in contact with air. Therefore it cannot be characterized as pyrophoric.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In connection with determination of other physico-chemical properties, Small Vinyl Ester was dissolved (saturated solutions) in water and it was handled under normal laboratory conditions without any spontaneous reactions. This demonstrates that Small Vinyl Ester will not ignite in contact with air or water. Furthermore, the lowest autoignition temperature of Small Vinyl Ester occurred was 466 °C., cf. section 4.12.
