Conclusions:
The solubility of CARMINE in water was determined from the measured test item concentrations in the filtrated test solutions via photometer.
Equilibration time can be considered as approx. 2 days, as the values which were meas-ured on days 1 – 3 did not give significantly different values and no rising tendency was observed between day 2 and 3.
The concentration was measured in the flasks 2 – 6. The solubility of CARMINE in water was calculated based on the measured absorbance values via photometer.
All replicates showed a dependence of water solubility from nominal load. So no standard deviation can be calculated, but the percentage of dissolved test item from the nominal load can be given. The dissolved part from flask 6 (nominal load 100 g/L) was stated as an outlier: The colour of the solution was orange while all other flasks were pink, and the measured concentration was lower than the concentration in flask 5 which had a lower nominal load. Therefore, flask 6 was treated as outlier and not used in the evaluation of weight dependence.
The solubility range for the tested nominal concentration 2 – 100 g/L was 125 – 559 mg/L, corresponding to a dissolved part of 1.1 – 6.8 % of the test item relating to the nominal load.
No observations arousing doubts concerning the accuracy of the results and the validity of the study were made.
