Any other information on results incl. tables

Density of water at 21 °C: 0.99800 g/cm3 (calculated from linear regression of the values at 20°C and 25°C)

Literature value for the surface tension of water: 72.58 mN/m (calculated from linear regression of the surface tension values for 15, 18, 20, 25 and 30 °C)

A summary of the corrected surface tension results are shown below, with the full uncorrected results detailed in Tables 1 and 2.

Distilled water: 73.16 mN/m. This result demonstrated that the instrument was calibrated correctly.

Test solution 1: 72.19 mN/m.

Test solution 2: 72.19 mN/m.

Mean of test solutions 1 and 2: 72.2 mN/m.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The surface tension of a 90% saturated aqueous solution of MMBA (3-methoxy-2-methylbenzoic acid) was determined to be 72.2 mN/m at 21°C.
Executive summary:

MMBC (3-Methyoxy-2-methylbenzoylchloride) hydrolyses almost immediately in contact with water. Therefore the surface tension was determined on the hydrolysis product, MMBA (3-methoxy-2-methylbenzoic acid).

Under the conditions of the test, the surface tension of a 90% saturated aqueous solution of MMBA (3-methoxy-2-methylbenzoic acid) was determined to be 72.2 mN/m at 21°C. The test was conducted in accordance with EU Method A.5.
