Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From 10 December, 2018 to 13 December, 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Remarks:
The study was conducted in a facility which operates in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice principles; however no claim of GLP compliance was intended nor is made for this study
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
ca. 1 808 s
Remarks on result:
other: Not highly flammable
Remarks:
Test substance did not propagate combustion over the 200 mm of the preliminary screening test in under 4 minutes

Results

Preliminary Screening

The pile melted then ignited and burnt with a yellow flame which emitted light grey fumes. Combustion was propagated over 200 mm in 30 minutes 8 seconds. The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

Conclusion

The test substance has been determined to be not highly flammable as it did not propagate combustion over the 200 mm of the preliminary screening test in under 4 minutes.

Interpretation of results:
other: not classified based on CLP criteria
Conclusions:
Under the study conditions, the test substance was determined to be not highly flammable.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the flammability of the test substance, according to EU Method A.10. During the preliminary test, the pile melted then ignited and burnt with a yellow flame which emitted light grey fumes. Combustion was propagated over 200 mm in 30 minutes 8 seconds. The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test. The test substance has been determined to be not highly flammable as it did not propagate combustion over the 200 mm of the preliminary screening test in under 4 minutes. Under the study conditions, the test substance was determined to be not highly flammable (Envigo, 2019).

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

The flammability of the test substance was determined according to EU Method A.10 (Envigo, 2019).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the preliminary screening test results, the test substance does not warrant a classification for flammability according to EU CLP criteria (Regulation 1272/2008/EC).
