Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is an organic substance or mixture containing chemical groups associated with explosive properties, but the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500°C

Description of key information

non explosive

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance does not meet the criteria to be classified as explosive. The substance decomposes at a temperature below 500 °C, with an energy less than 500 J/g.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), 2.1.4.2. Screening procedure section, the screening procedure is aimed at identifying the presence of such reactive groups and the potential for rapid energy release. If the screening procedure identifies the substance or mixture to be a potential explosive, the acceptance procedure (section 10.3 of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria) has to be performed.

Screening procedure failed to evidence any reason for concern, on the basis that the enthalpy of decomposition was recorded at 351 J/g and the onset at 276 °C.

In conclusion, substance does not meet the criteria to be classified as explosive, according to the Regulation EC 1272/2008 (CLP).
