Individual results

1.1.1    Thermal stability

A DSC-measurement in a closed glass crucible showed an exothermal effect in the temperature range of 215 – 400 °C with an energy release of 565 J/g. The measurement was terminated at 500 °C.

Graphical presentation of the DSC run is given on page8(Figure1).The results are summarised inTable 1.

1.1.2    Explosive properties

The heat of decomposition was above 500 J/g. Therefore the main test on explosive properties had to be performed.

Mechanical sensitivity (friction):

The test item did not contain particles > 500 µm (see study No. PS20170415-2). Therefore sieving was not necessary. No explosion occurred within 6 tests using a pinload of 360 N.

Mechanical sensitivity (shock):

The test item did not contain particles > 500 µm (see study No. PS20170415-2). Therefore sieving was not necessary. No explosion within 6 tests using a mass of 10 kg falling from a height of 0.4 m was observed.

Thermal sensitivity:

Three tests were performed with a circular nozzle plate with a hole of 2 mm diameter. No explosion was observed.Table 2gives the results of the thermal sensitivity.

The test on thermal sensitivity carried out with a nozzle with a diameter of 2.0 mm showed no explosion. Compared to the nozzle with a diameter of 6.0 mm the venting area of the nozzle with 2.0 mm is smaller by an order of magnitude. Additionally the physical state of the test item excludes the enrichment of high-energy components caused by evaporation of volatile solvents. Due to these facts an explosion with a nozzle width of 6.0 mm was excluded.
