Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

The hazard assessment is based on the data currently available. New studies with the registered substance and/or other member substances of the glycol esters category will be conducted in the future. The finalised studies will be included in the technical dossier as soon as they become available and the hazard assessment will be re-evaluated accordingly.

For further details, please refer to the category concept document attached to the category object (linked under IUCLID section 0.2) showing an overview of the strategy for all substances within the glycol esters category.

Classification relevant information for environmental hazard:

Biodegradation:

Based on the results of the read across substances and the QSAR predictions, the target substance dodecanoic acid, ester with 1,2-propanediol (CAS 37321 -62 -3) is considered readily biodegradable.

Aquatic acute toxicity

Aquatic invertebrates:

EL50 (48 h) = 6.59 mg/L (nominal, OECD 202)

Algae/aquatic plant:

EL50 (72 h) = 31.25 mg/L (nominal, OECD 201)

Aquatic chronic toxicity:

NOELR (72 h) = 9.76 mg/L (nominal, OECD 201)

Classification according to CLP

Based on the available data listed above, the most sensitive acute effect concentration was obtained for aquatic invertebrates, with an EL50 (48 h) of 6.59 mg/L (nominal). Thus, the substance does not need to be classified for acute aquatic toxicity according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) and following amendments (ATPs).

The NOELR (72 h) = 9.76 mg/L (nominal) for algae is the only chronic aquatic effect concentration available. As the substance is readily biodegradable and the log Pow is 5.0 to >10, the substance need to be classified for chronic aquatic toxicity according to the Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) and following amendments (ATPs) as Aquatic Chronic 2.
