Details on results:
In the absence of any relevant dissociating functional groups, no specific manipulation of the mobile phase pH was necessary to ensure that the test item was evaluated in a non-ionized form. Therefore the determination was completed at an approximately neutral pH.
Due to the lack of significant chromophores in the test item structure, it was necessary to use different detector types, in series, to detect the deadtime and reference standards, and the test item. Due to the partition coefficient of the test item massively exceeding the highest reference standard, no correction for the internal volume (and hence retention time) between the two detectors was required during calculations. Also, it is acknowledged that the test item sample solution overloaded the ELSD on analysis; however this did not impact on the validity of the determination, since although no true peak maxima retention time was detected, it was only necessary to illustrate that the test item retention time exceeded that of DDT.
The partition coefficient of the test item has been determined to be greater than 6.50, log10 Pow >3.16 x 10e6.

Description of key information

Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water). Greater than 3.16 x 106, log10Pow>6.5,determined using an HPLC method designed to be compatible with Method A.8 Partition Coefficient of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008andMethod 117 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 13 April 2004.
