Description of key information

Following its dissolution in aqueous media, the toxicity of strontium 2-ethylhexanoate is driven by strontium cations and 2-ethylhexanoate anions. Acute toxicity of strontium ions to fish is estimated with the 96-h LC50 values of > 92.8 mg/L for saltwater fish as well as 96 -h LC50 values of > 56.34 mg/L for freshwater fish, complemented by further supporting acute toxicity data with respective EC/LC50 values well above 100 mg/L for fresh- and saltwater fish. Regarding the 2-ethylhexanoate anion, toxicity testing on freshwater fish revealed a low hazard potential as indicated by an LC50 (96h) of >100 mg/L. Thus, strontium 2-ethylhexanoate appears to have a very low potential for acute toxicity to fish.
