Description of key information

Metal carboxylates such as strontium 2-ethylhexanoate are substances consisting of a metal cation and a carboxylic acid anion. Based on the solubility of strontium 2-ethylhexanoate in water, a complete dissociation resulting in strontium ions and 2-ethylhexanoate ions may be assumed under environmental conditions. Abiotic degradation is not relevant for strontium ions. After evaporation or exposure to the air, 2-ethylhexanoic acid will be slowly degraded by photochemical processes. Due to the structural properties, hydrolysis is not expected to be an important fate path for 2-ethylhexanoate.
