Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Based on the results obtained from the study, it is concluded that, the vapour pressure of trans-2,3-
Dibromo-2-Butene-1,4-Diol is 4.28 x 10-3Pa at 25 C.
Executive summary:

The study entitled “Determination of Vapour Pressure of trans-2,3-Dibromo-2-Butene-1,4-Diol ”

was performed in compliance with Study Plan No. P/PCP2643/VP/18 which incorporated the

recommendations made in the Guidelines: OECD 104, OPPTS 830.7950 and EEC A.4.

The vapour pressure of test item was determined using "gas saturation method". The test item was

loaded into a 5 mm inner diameter stainless steel trap, between glass wool plugs. The trap was

filled with silica gel in two equal portions using glass wool plugs. The stainless steel trap containing

test item and silica gel trap were arranged in series and kept in water bath to attain test

temperature. Inert gas (Nitrogen) was passed slowly, at selected temperatures of 30, 40 and 50 ±

0.5 ºC and at set flow rates of 50, 100 and 150 mL/minute through the test item, to ensure

saturation. The set up was left for saturation at test temperature for 48 hours. The transported test

item was trapped using sorbent (Silica traps). After the specified duration (48 hours), the traps were

taken out and amount of test item trapped in the two layers of the silica was analyzed by HPLC

method. The two layers of silica gel separated from traps were extracted for determination of

amount of test item trapped in them. The vapour pressure was calculated from the known total gas

volume and the weight of material transported.

Based on the results obtained from the study, it is concluded that the vapour pressure of trans-2,3-

Dibromo-2-Butene-1,4-Diol is 4.28 x 10-3 Pa at 25 ºC.
