All fish in the control group were alive and appeared normal. The treated fishes were observed to be lying on side or back and abnormally swift swimming with the test concentration no less than 30 mg/L. Fishes treated with 50 mg/L test substance were also observed to be tumbling during swimming.

Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the short-term toxicity of the test substance, 'di-C18-22 AAEMIM-MS' (active: 100%), to fish according to OECD Guideline 203, in compliance with GLP. Based on a range-finding test, a definitive test was performed with test substance concentrations of 0 to 50 mg/L under static conditions. Three replicates of 10 Danio rerio were assigned for each group. During the definitive test, mortality, inactivity, strange swimming pattern and other abnormal behaviours were recorded. pH, dissolved oxygen and temperature were measured as well throughout the experiment. Test substance concentrations were analysed by spectrometry at 0, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h and showed a good linearity when increasing the dose. All fish in the control group were alive and appeared normal. The treated fishes were observed to be lying on side or back and abnormally swift swimming with the test concentration no less than 30 mg/L. Fishes treated with 50 mg/L test substance were observed to be tumbling during swimming.
