Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
24 November - 14 December 2004
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Batch n°: ZR027180PUH301
- Analytical purity: 99.6%
- Manufacturing date: 18 October 2002
- Expiration date: 18 October 2008
- Storage conditions: at room temperature
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

In contact with the flame of the gas burner the test item melted and burned by emitting some sparks during about 5 seconds. After removal of the ignition source (after 2 minutes), combustion stopped. There was no propagation of burning.

Therefore, the test item is considered as not highly flammable and it is not necessary to carry out the full test.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test item is considered to be not highly flammable.
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures

Description of key information

From a GLP key study according to the guideline EC A.10 (K1, De Ryckel, 2004), the test substance was determined to be not highly flammable. Furthermore, no self-ignition was observed in a GLP study according to the guideline EC A.16 (K1, Bates, 2002) and therefore, the test substance was considered to be not self-heating. Based on the structure and experience in handling, no pyrophoric properties and no emission of flammable gases in contact with water is expected.
