Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
3-chloroperbenzoic acid
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
other: liquid - solid: mixture of
Reference substance:
3-chloroperbenzoic acid
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

3-chloroperbenzoic acid is not readily biodegradable as predicted by QSAR (BIOWIN v4.10), but is predicted to biodegrade in the range of days to weeks or weeks to months. Based on this information, the substance is not considered to be vP (and P).

The QSAR estimated log Kow of the substance is 1.03, indicating lack of significant bioaccumulation potential.

Aquatic toxicity studies reported a 96 -hour LC50 of 0.45 mg/L in fish and a 72 -hour EC50 (growth rate) of 1.0 mg/L in algae. The NOEC for growth rate in algae based on statistical significance was 0.093 mg/L and based on biological relevance was 0.28 mg/L . The substance is neither classified as carcinogenic (category 1A or 1B), mutagenic (category 1A or 1B), or toxic for reproduction (category 1A or 1B, or 2), nor is there other evidence of chronic toxicity, as identified by the classifications "STOT RE 1, or STOT RE 2" according to CLP Regulation. Based on the available data, the criteria for T (Toxic) is not met.

In conclusion, 3-chloroperbenzoic acid is predicted to be ultimately biodegradable, not bioaccumulating, and does not fulfil the T-criteria. Therefore, the substance does not qualify for classification as PBT.
