Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
16 Oct 2017 to 16 Oct 2017
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
ISO 13320 (Particle size analysis - Laser diffraction methods)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Principle
The particle size distribution of different pigment sample dispersions was analysed by use of laser diffraction.

Method
- The Sympatec “SUCELL” automated closed loop wet dispersing unit is filled with fresh demineralized water and circulated by a peristaltic pump through a stainless steel flowthrough cuvette back into the water basin.
- The pigment sample is dosed into the “SUCELL” water basin and the dispersion is circulated until a stable readout of about 15% optical density is obtained
- The laser diffraction analysis is started and after completion the sample compartment water basin is emptied, thoroughly cleaned and refilled with fresh demineralized water for the next measurement.

Apparatus
- Sympatec Helos/BF (H1906) laser diffraction apparatus equipped with a “SUCELL” digital dispenser (ID 204, stainless steel flow-through cuvette Küv. 6015 with path length of 2mm) and Windox software version 5.9.00 (see Appendix for illustrations)
- Ultrapure water obtained from a water purification system from Millipore, Model Milli-Q Integral 15, S/N F9NN37849B with Q-POD remote dispenser S/N F9MN26892P
