Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Link to relevant study record(s)
- Endpoint:
- relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 04 February 1999
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- other: United Nations, Recommendations on the transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria; Part Ill, Section 33, Test N.4: "Test method for self-heating substances" (United Nations; New York and Geneva, Second revised edition 1995).
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- - Principle of test:
The purpose of the test was to determine whether a substance is able to reach a temperature of 200°C by self-heating under specified storage conditions.
- Short description of test conditions: The containers were placed in the centre of the oven. The oven temperature was raised to 140°C and kept there for 24 hours.
The temperatures of the samples and the oven were recorded in time intervals of 30 minutes.
- Parameters analysed / observed:Observations were made to determine whether the test substance reaches a temperature of 200°C by self-heating.
At the end of the test, the consistency of the test substance was determined - GLP compliance:
- yes
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Source and lot/batch No.of test material: Source Sponsor, batch no 8135C/951020
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 08 January 2000
- Purity test date: Not stated
STABILITY AND STORAGE CONDITIONS OF TEST MATERIAL
- Storage condition of test material: room temperature in the dark
- Stability under test conditions: not stated
- Solubility and stability of the test substance in the solvent/vehicle: n/a
- Reactivity of the test substance with the solvent/vehicle of the cell culture medium:n/a
- Key result
- Relative self-ignition temperature:
- > 140 °C
- Remarks on result:
- no self ignition observed under the test conditions
- Conclusions:
- In the test where the container with dimensions 10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm was used, no significant temperature rise was observed. After the test, no changes were observed in the appearance of the test substance. The sample temperature did not exceed 200°C. Therefore, the substance should not be classified in Division 4.2 (according to the criteria as described in the recommendation).
In conclusion, C.I.PIGMENT RED 81:5 - C.1.45160:4 should not be classified in Division 4.2; Packing Group Ill.
