Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
Since starting of production and use
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Justification for type of information:
Brazing flux is stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time and does not react with water as showed by its production process that occurs with water. Additionally, the handling of the substance for brazing is done at elevated temperature (up to 850 °C), clarifying that brazing flux is not auto-flammable and that additional testing is not necessary.
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
Version / remarks:
Regular practice of brazing at elevated temperatures (up to 850°C)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Temperature increase rises higher than 400°C/ MP
GLP compliance:
no
Key result
Relative self-ignition temperature:
> 850 °C
Remarks on result:
other: no self ignition observed under the test conditions / no self ignition seen under use conditions (up to 850°C)
Conclusions:
Brazing flux does not show property of auto flammability up to 850°C.
Moreover, this evidence is for a temperature larger higher than that given in the REACH Annex VII, Col 2, where the Regulation provides the following specific rule to support non-testing: "for solids (...) or i preliminary results exclude self-heating of the substance up to 400°C".

Description of key information

Brazing flux does not show property of auto flammability up to 850°C.

Moreover, this evidence is for a temperature larger higher than that given in the REACH Annex VII, Col 2, where the Regulation provides the following specific rule to support non-testing: "for solids (...) or i preliminary results exclude self-heating of the substance up to 400°C".

Key value for chemical safety assessment
