Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 31 Aug - 06 Oct 2016
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
- Deviations:
- no
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Source and lot/batch No.of test material: Lot 38022 (drum 1)
- Physical state: White solid
- Analytical purity: 95.11%
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 31 May 2017
STABILITY AND STORAGE CONDITIONS OF TEST MATERIAL
- Storage condition of test material: at room temperature - Key result
- Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Remarks on result:
- other: No propagation of combustion along the 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- FBSEE diol is not highly flammable as determined by EU Method A.10.
- Executive summary:
The flammability of FBSEE diol was evaluated according to EU Method A.10 "Flammability (solids)", and UN No. ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.5 Part 3. Results of the preliminary test indicated that the main study did not have to be performed. This test was performed following EU guidance and was GLP compliant; therefore it is considered reliable without restriction.
Reference
The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test item pile. The test item melted, burned with a blue flame and turned into a yellow residue. Grey smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 1 second and no propagation of combustion was observed.
Description of key information
FBSEE diol is not highly flammable
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
In flammability testing (EU Method A.10), FBSEE diol extinguished and did not propagate combustion after the gas burner ignition source was removed. In addition, FBSEE diol does not contain any metals, transition metals, boron, or silicon, and the structure does not include moieties that would result in a reaction with water, air, or damp air leading to emanation of flammable gases. The structure does not contain any chemically unstable or highly reactive groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition.
Justification for classification or non-classification
CLP criteria not met
