Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Parameter:
% degradation (CO2 evolution)
Value:
ca. 51.6
Sampling time:
28 d
Details on results:

During the test, three stages in the biodegradation of the test material are clearly visible:
- primary reactions up to day 3; these are manganese related processes.
- biodegradation phase from day 3 to day 6, i.e. oxidation of the organic part of the test material,
- nitrification of the test material from day 6 to day 28.

The given limits in days are indicative and there is probably no strict demarcation between the end of biodegradation and the start of nitrification. Both of these for a while processes occur side by side.

Biodegradation is the oxidation of organic carbon and other elements in an organic molecule.
Because the concentration of nitrites and nitrates was not determined for many test times (only for 14 and 28 days) the biodegradation of the test material in multiple cannot be calculated points. For this reason, the 10-day window principle was not applied.
