Study design

Test type:
seed germination/root elongation toxicity test
Study type:
laboratory study
Substrate type:
other: Quartz sand
Limit test:
no
Post exposure observation period:
The post exposure observation period ends when at least 65% of the control seed has germinated and developed roots that were at least 20 cm long.

Test conditions

Test temperature:
25°C ± 1°C
Details on test conditions:
TEST SYSTEM
- Test container: Petri dish 150 mm in diameter
- No. of seeds per container: 10
- No. of replicates per treatment group:
Limit test: one blank control group and one test group (saturated conc.), each group with one or three replicates.
Definitive test: one blank control group and seven/eight test groups, each group with 3 replicates

GROWTH CONDITIONS
- Photoperiod: Complete darkness
- Day/night temperatures: 25°C ± 1°C

EFFECT PARAMETERS MEASURED (with observation intervals if applicable) :
At the end of the test, the total and average germination number of each group were checked and recorded; the developmental state of the seeds were observed and recorded; any abnormal seedling development of appearance such as lesions, enhanced toot growth (measured), discoloration, swelling, loss of turgor, etc. was reported.

TEST CONCENTRATIONS
Range finding/limit study:
- Test concentrations: 176.4 mg/L
- Results used to determine the conditions for the definitive study: Germination rates and inhibition rates on tomato, soybean, cabbage, ryegrass, rape, paddy and corn were <50% , and thereby no need to perform final/definitive tests on these species.
