- In general, Potassium-(S)-lactate is a solid but the substance has strong hygroscopic properties so that it can only be obtained as aqueous solution. Hence, the study for flammability does not need to be conducted as aqueous solutions are not combustible.

Description of key information
The substance to be registered as such is a solid. However, the marketed product is an aqueous solution which cannot be transformed into a solid substance (by evaporation) due to strong hygroscopic properties of potassium-(S)-lactate. Thus, in accordance with REACH Annex XI, section 2, it is technically not possible to test the solid substance for flammability.
