Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity data of fatty acids, C9-C13-neo, barium salts are not available. Read-across to the assessment entities soluble barium substances and neodecanoic acid (structural analogue of fatty acids, C9-13 neo) is applied. Reliable data available for soluble barium substances and neodecanoic acid indicate that the moiety of ecotoxicological concern are barium cations. A reliable, nominal 48h-EC50 of 14.5 mg Ba/L and a 48-h EL50 of > 457 mg/L neodecanoic acid were derived. Thus, fatty acids, C9-C13-neo, barium salts has a low potential for acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates.
