Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Partition coefficients

For metals, the transport and distribution over the different environmental compartments e.g. the water (dissolved fraction, fraction bound to suspended matter), soil (fraction bound or complexed to the soil particles, fraction in the soil pore water,...) is described and quantified by the partition coefficients (Kd values) between these different fractions.

For Germanium, Kd's between sediment and freshwater were determined for regional freshwater and estuarine waters. The Kd values are:

-for freshwater: >9796 L/kg (based on 90P values) and > 13810 L/kg (based on 50P values) for Ge in sediment and freshwater.

-for estuarine waters: 452 L/kg based on 90P values also.

the Log Kd for freshwater - sediment is also considered relevant for the sludges and the suspended matter.

For soil, a realistic Kd value of 1000kg/l was derived from the literature (Sheppard et al 2009).
