Preliminary Test

An approximate value of the ignition temperature of the test item was first determined by a preliminary test. An “ignition” is indicated as “+” and “no ignition” as “-“. 5 drops were added into the Erlenmeyer flask at each temperature.

The auto-ignition temperature rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5 °C was determined as 265 °C.

According to DIN EN 13463-1 the test item has to be assigned to temperature class T3 (maximum surface temperature / minimum auto-ignition temperature 200 °C).

Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 Part A.15, DIN 14522 (2005) and DIN 51794 (2003) to determine the auto-ignition temperature of the test substance. In a preliminary test the approximate auto-ignition temperature was determined. For the main test three test series were conducted. The temperature determined in the preliminary test was used as starting point for the main test. The temperature was decreased by 2 - 4 K until no ignition was observed. According to criteria laid down in Regulation EC No. 440/2008 method A.15 and DIN 51794 the auto-ignition temperature is the lowest value rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the auto-ignition temperature was determined to be 265 °C at 987 -1000.5 hPa.
