Description of key information

The surface tension of 2-chloropropionic acid was measured according to EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension).
The surface tension of a 1.02 g/L solution of the test item was determined to be 71.9 mN/m at 22 +/- 0.5°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
71.9
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 020

Additional information

The surface tension of 2 -chloropropionic acid was measured using a platinum ring according to EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension) in a modern day guideline study. The surface tension is a measure of the vertical force required to separate the ring from the surface of the liquid. The liquid is a solution of the test substance in water (1.02 g/L). The surface tension of the test item was determined to be 71.9 mN/m at 22.0 +/- 0.5 °C.

Substances displaying a surface tension of < 60 mN/m should be regarded as surface active. The test item is considered not to be a surface-active material.
