Details on results:
Before extraction: 25.0 g Chloramine-T (assay 99.3%) in 250.0 ml H20 results in a 9.32 w t % Chloramine-T solution. After extraction: 8.85 w t % Chloramine-T in the water-layer -> 0.47 wt % Chloramine-T in the octanol-layer. Partition coefficient: (20ºC) K oct/water = 0.47/8.85 = 0.05. Log Koc/water = -1.30. The experiment was done in duplo: both experiments gave the same result.

Executive summary:

According to an Akzo Nobel inhouse method the partitioning coefficient was determined for Tosylchloramide sodium. Substance (25.00 g, assay 99.38%) was dissolved at 20% in demineralized water (250.0 ml). 1-Octanol (250.0 ml) was added after the Tosylchloramide sodium had been dissolved completely. The two-layer system formed was stirred vigorously for 15 minutes at 20ºC. The entire solvent mixture was transferred to a separation funnel. Separation took place and the concentration of Tosylchloramide sodium in the water-layer was determined. The experiment was done in duplo. Before extraction: 25.0 g Tosylchloramide sodium (assay 99.3%) in 250.0 ml H20 results in a 9.32 w t % Tosylchloramide sodium solution.
