Description of key information

OECD guideline studies are available that describe the acute toxicity of vinylcyclohexane to aquatic freshwater organisms (fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae and microorganisms). All studies were conducted according to GLP.

The most sensitive organism tested was the algae Raphidocelis subcapitata (ErC50 (72 h) = 49 µg a.i./L, measured concentration). The 72-hr NOEC was 35 µg/L.

The acute immobilization test with Daphnia magna revealed a 48 h EC50 of 965 µg/L based on the geometric mean of measured concentrations and a 48-hr NOEC of 402 µg/L.

Fish (Danio rerio) was tested according to the threshold approach described in the OECD Series on Testing Assessment No. 126. The 96-h NOEC for D. rerio is ≥ 231 µg/L. Thus, D. rerio is less sensitive to vinylcyclohexane compared to R. subcapitata.

No effects on microorganisms od sewage sludge were observed at a concentration of 100 mg/L nominal after 3-h exposure.
