Data are available from a fully compliant OECD 415 One Generation Reproductive Toxicity Study performed with a representative alkaryl sulfonate salt. The NOAEL for F0 and F1 generations in the study was 500 mg/kg bw/day, the highest dose tested. As such, because of chemical similarity to the tested substance, no reproductive toxicity is expected for EC No. 271-877-7.

Effects on developmental toxicity

Description of key information
F1 generation animals were evaluated for indications of potential adverse effects during gestation as part of a fully compliant OECD 415 One generation Reproductive Toxicity Study in a representative alkaryl sulfonate salt. The NOAEL for effects in F1 animals in that study was 500 mg/kg bw/day, the highest dose tested. In the absence of any indication of potential development effects, no specific developmental toxicity testing is considered necessary. 

Justification for classification or non-classification

Representative alkylbenzene sulfonate salts do not meet the criteria set out in Directive 67/548/EEC and also Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 for classification for reproductive toxicity or developmental effects. Classification of EC No. 271-877-7 for effects genotoxicity is not considered to be necessary based on chemical similarity to those representative substances.
