Remarks on result:
no self ignition observed under the test conditions

In the investigation of self-ignition in the Grewer Oven for the pure test item, an endothermic effect was detected in the temperature range of 320 – 395 °C. After this the test item shows a small self-heating up to the maximum test temperature of 420 °C.

For the test item in mixture with Kieselguhr shows an endothermic effect in the temperature range of 325 – 360 °C. After this the test item shows a small self-heating up to the maximum test temperature of 420 °C.

Results of the screening test for self-ignition in the Grewer Oven

Experiment Onset self- ignition / °C Maximum temperature / °C
Pure test item 390 420
Test item in mixture with Kieselguhr (1:1) 360 420
Conclusions:
The test substance indicated no self-ignition at atmospheric pressure up to the maximum test temperature of 420 °C.
Based on the test result determined according to UN N.4 Grewer Oven (screening test), the test item should not be classified in accordance with the respective guidance (details below).

UN Transport Regulation:
The test item has not to be classified as self-heating substance in class 4, division 4.2 according to the UN Transport Regulation.

GHS / CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.11:
The test item has not to be classified as self-heating substance according to GHS/CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1, Section 2.11.

Description of key information

The test in accordance with VDI sheet 1 (Grewer-Oven) is a screening test only. However, test results indicate that no full test should be initiated and no classification and labelling is required for that substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information
