Description of key information

For barium 4-dodecylphenolate, aquatic toxicity studies are not vailable. Read-across to the assessment entities soluble barium substances and dodecylphenolate is applied for the assessment of barium 4-dodecylphenolate since the ions of barium 4-dodecylphenolate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Reliable data available for soluble barium substances and dodecylphenolate indicate that the moiety of ecotoloxicological concern are dodecylphenolate anions. A reliable, nominal 48h-EC50 of 14.5 mg Ba/L was derived. According to the QSAR-based outcome of the model ECOSAR v.2.0, dodecylphenolate has a potential for toxicity to aquatic invertebrates since the 48-h LC50 was estimated with 0.112 mg/L.

Thus, barium 4-dodecylphenolate is expected to have a potential for acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates.
