Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

For barium 4-dodecylphenolate, aquatic toxicity studies are not vailable. Read-across to the assessment entities soluble barium substances and dodecylphenolate is applied for the assessment of barium 4-dodecylphenolate since the ions of barium 4-dodecylphenolate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Reliable data available for soluble barium substances and dodecylphenolate indicate that the moiety of ecotoloxicological concern are dodecylphenolate anions. Based on measured total Ba-levels in the water column, a 96-h LC50 of > 97.5 mg Ba/L (corresponding to > 3.5 mg dissolved Ba/L) is reported for fish. According to the QSAR-based outcome of the model ECOSAR v.2.0, dodecylphenolate has a potential for toxicity to freshwater fish, as the 96-h LC50 was estimated with 0.038 mg/L.

Thus, barium 4 -dodecylphenolate is expected to have a potential for acute toxicity to fish.
