Diethoxy(dimethyl)silane (CAS 78-62-6) hydrolyses rapidly under environmental relevant conditions (half-live 5.5 h at pH 7 and 20-25 °C). Hydrolysis products are dimethylsilanediol and ethanol. Diethoxy(dimethyl)silane (CAS 78-62-6) is not readily biodegradable.
The parent substance and its silanol hydrolysis product exhibit low volatility. Therefore, indirect photodegradation is not an important degradation pathway. Considering the low potential for adsorption to soil and sediment and the high water solubility, the main compartment for environmental distribution will be water.
