Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

m-Toluic acid has no oxidising properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

According to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex VII, Section 7.13, Column 2, the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

Justification for classification or non-classification

There are no chemical groups present in m-toluic acid which are associated with oxidising properties.

According to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) of the United Nations, m-toluic acid does not have to be classified for oxidising properties. According to the criteria of regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and its subsequent adaptations, m-toluic acid does not have to be classified and has no obligatory labelling requirement for oxidising properties.
