Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Based on the available test data on structural analogues (e.g. straight run gas oils), it is clear that Renewable Diesel is expected to be not readily biodegradable in accordance with OECD criterion. However, it was shown in both the key and supporting studies available that degradation occurs within the 28 day test period which suggests that these complex substances are inherently biodegradable. Biodegradation predictions have also been determined based on the Hydrocarbon Block Approach (CONCAWE, 1996) which is central for determination of properties of a complex relevant for environmental risk assessment (CONCAWE draft gas oil RAR, 2007). Straight run gas oil are constructed of several different HCBs which can have very different properties depending on their assigned water solubility and Log Kow values. The 7 HCBs ( 6, 23, 26, 27, 39, 40 and 41 ) chosen to represent Renewable Diesel show that certain components of the substance are expected to be readily biodegradable (not fulfilling criteria) or inherent biodegradable.
