Description of key information

Stability:

Abiotic degradation via hydrolysis of Nonane-1,9 -diol is not expected to be a relevant degradation pathway in the environment as the substance is readily biodegradable.

Biodegradation:

Nonane-1,9 -diol is readily biodegraded in water according to OECD criteria.

The tests to determine the biodegradation in surface water as well as in soil were therefore waived. Furthermore, an exposure of the compartment soil is considered unlikely.

Bioaccumulation:

Nonane-1,9 -diol is not considered to bioaccumulate in aquatic / sediment organisms based on a log Kow value of 1.69, which is below 3 and indicate a bioaccumulation potential.

Transport and distribution:

Nonane-1,9 -diol is not expected to adsorb to sediment or soil particles based on a low log Kow value measured at 1.69. Furthermore, the substance is readily biodegradable.
