Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The log Koc for Diurea 8 is calculated to be 5.45 - 14.03 using the Gerstl equation. The log Koc for Diurea 8 was determined to be 4.97 - 10.0 using the MCI method and 4.81 - 10.25 using the log Kow QSAR models.

Additional information

The log Koc for Diurea 8 has been calculated using the Gerstl equation (Gerstl 1990). This is supported by QSAR estimates using the MCI and log Kow methods (US EPA 2009). These methods are discussed in the ECHA endpoint specific guidance and are considered appropriate techniques for this endpoint.

Diurea 8 only occurs in a grease base specifically designed to minimise leaching. The isolated thickener is estimated to have a water solubility of less than 0.01 mg/L and as the log octanol-water partition coefficient is predicted to be above 6 (Dawick 2012), Diurea 8 is expected to reside within the grease base oil matrix. As such, Diurea 8 is not expected to partition to water and hence is not anticipated to be available for adsorption to soil or sediment. In the event that constituents of Diurea 8 leached out of the base oil grease matrix, environmental partitioning would be primarily to soil or sediment. However, this process is considered highly unlikely and the exposure concentrations of Diurea 8 which would be available for bioaccumulation are extremely limited.
