Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reliable ecotoxicological data are available for Dodecanoic acid, ester with 1,2,3-propanetriol (CAS 37318-95-9) for short-term toxicity to fish, long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates and toxicity to aquatic algae. All experimental studies available were performed according to internationally accepted guidelines. They cover all three trophic levels of an aquatic ecosystem.

The short-term toxicity to fish was determined in a GLP-study according to OECD 203 in a semi-static test with daily renewal of test solution. Danio rerio was exposed for 96 h resulting in a LC50 (96h) of 4.3 mg (meas. TWA).

As a long-term aquatic toxicity study on invertebrates is available a short-term study does not need to be conducted. The chronic toxicity to Daphnia magna was tested in a semi-static study according to OECD 211 (GLP) with daily renewal of test solution. Daphnia magna was exposed for 21 d resulting in an EC10 of 0.027 mg/L (meas. TWA) and a NOEC of 0.087 mg/L (meas. TWA).

The toxicity to aquatic algae was tested in a study according to OECD 201 (GLP) using the freshwater algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. An EC10/EC50 (72h) > 6.83 mg/L (meas. geom. mean) and a NOEC = 2.58 mg/L (meas. geom. mean) were determinedbased on growth inhibition.

The toxicity to microorganisms was assessed using the toxicity control of the biodegradation test (OECD 301B) for Dodecanoic acid, ester with 1,2,3-propanetriol (CAS 37318-95-9). The toxicity control attained 84% degradation after 14 days of incubation at asubstance concentration of 20 mg/L. Hence, the substance is not toxic to aquatic microorganisms in the toxicity control and a NOEC (14 d) of ≥ 20 mg/L was derived.
