First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

General information: Immediately remove any clothing soiled by the product.

After inhalation: In case of unconsciousness place patient stably in side position for transportation.

After skin contact: Immediately wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly.

After eye contact: Rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor.

After swallowing: If symptoms persist consult doctor.

Most important symptoms and effects,

both acute and delayed No further relevant information available.

Eyes: Dust may irritate eyes mechanically.

Hazards and systemic effects: General information for cyano-compounds: Highest alert!

Hydrocyanic acid may be released!

Possible routes of intake: Intake by swallowing or inhalation of dust.

Chronic effects: Persistant exposition of inhalable dust above threshold limits may cause cough, shortness of breath or chronic pneumonia.

Medicinal indications which may be aggravated by exposition: Breathing in of dust or vapours may complicate existing respiratory

disease or other medical indications like emphysema or asthma.

Exposition may also aggravate existing skin disease or eye complaint.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed:

Intoxication is determined by formation of hydrocyanic acid.

Antidote: Hydroxycobalamine (vitamine B12, Cyanokit (R)).

Artificial respiration with 100% oxygen.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing agents: CO2, powder or water spray. Fight larger fires with water spray or alcohol resistant foam.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: The possibility of formation of explosive dust/air mixtures under certain
conditions should be basically considered during handling and
processing.

In case of fire, the following can be released:

Carbon monoxide (CO)

Nitrogen oxides (NOx)

Hydrogen chloride (HCl)

Advice for firefighters

Protective equipment: Wear self-contained respiratory protective device.

Chemical resistant protective suit.

Under the protective suit a fire protective suit according to EN 469 should be applied.

Dispose of fire debris and contaminated fire fighting water in accordance with official regulations.

Collect contaminated fire fighting water separately. It must not enter the sewage system.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Wear protective clothing.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

Do not breathe dust.

Access only for trained personnel with personal protective equipment.

Use respiratory protective device against the effects of fumes/dust/aerosol.

Avoid spillage of product into the environment.

Avoid formation of dust.

Implementation of further measures based on existing emergency plans.

Environmental precautions: Keep contaminated washing water and dispose of appropriately.

Inform respective authorities in case of seepage into water course or sewage system.

Do not allow undiluted product or large quantities of it to reach ground water, water course or sewage system.

Methods and material for containment

and cleaning up: Pick up mechanically. If formation of dust cannot be avoided use respiratory filter device.

Dispose contaminated material as waste.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling: Empty containers must not be used for other products.

Contaminated protective equipment should be cleaned before taking it off.

Any unavoidable deposit of dust must be completely removed.

Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace.

Fill only in dedicated and assigned containers.

Keep containers tightly sealed.

Information about storage in one common storage facility: Store away from oxidising agents.

Specific end use(s): This product is exclusively dedicated for the application as  isolated intermediate under strictly controlled conditions according to

Article 17 and 18 of Regulation EC 1907/2006.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Additional information about design of technical facilities: Take care of sufficient ventilation. Avoid formation of dust.

Waste gases should be led into the atmosphere only via appropriate separators, scrubbers or incinerators.

According to Art. 17 and 18 of EU-Regulation 1907/2006 (REACH) this substance is used as isolated intermediate under strictly controlled conditions.

General protective and hygienic measures:

Contaminated protective suit shall be cleaned before taking it off.

Keep away from foodstuffs, beverages and feed.

Immediately remove all soiled and contaminated clothing.

Wash hands before breaks and at the end of work.

Store protective clothing separately.

Respiratory protection: Particle filter. The filter grade (P1 - P3) has to be established depending on work-place related limit values and the actual exposition.

Protection of hands: Protective gloves, rubber for the solid material.

Eye protection: Safety glasses

Body protection: Necessary protective suit has to be selected individually based on risk assessment.

Limitation and supervision of exposure into the environment:

Avoid spillage of product into the environment.

If possible use this material only in closed systems and devices.

Risk management measures: General protective and hygienic measures have to be observed.

Handling and use of this material/formulation only under controlled conditions in closed systems.

Employees who use this material/formulation must be trained and demonstrably instructed about possible risks for man and environment.

Measures for prevention of hazards in case of unwanted leakage shall be implemented.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical stability

Thermal decomposition / conditions to be avoided: No decomposition if used according to specifications.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: The possibility of formation of explosive dust/air mixtures under certain conditions should be principally considered during handling and processing.

Incompatible materials: Strong oxidizing agents.

Hazardous decomposition products: Nitrogen oxides

Hydrogen chloride (HCl)

Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods, Recommendation:

Must not be disposed together with household garbage. Do not allow product to reach sewage system.

Must be specially treated adhering to official regulations.

If possible recovery or recycling.

Uncleaned packaging:

Recommendation: Empty contaminated packagings thoroughly. They may be recycled after thorough and proper cleaning.

Contaminated containers or containers with residual amounts must be
treated as hazardous wastes.

Appropriate disposal: Empty container completely.

Storage in a safe place after emptying.
