Description of key information
The first study performed is the Modified Sturm test using non-adapted sludge from a municipal waste water treatment plant treating predominantly domestic sewage and the test substance showed only 4% biodegradation (mean of 2 bottles, based on % ThCO2). The test substance did not inhibit microbial activity at the concentration used in the test and the system was demonstrated to be healthy. The test substance is therefore concluded not to be readily biodegradable.
The test item was investigated for its potential (inherent) ultimate biodegradability in a Zahn-Wellens/EMPA test over 28 days, based on the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, No. 302 B (1992), Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Part C.9 and US EPA OPPTS 835.3200 (1998).
The mean biodegradability of the test item was calculated to be 6 % at the end of the 28-days exposure period.
Consequently, the test item was not biodegradable under the test conditions within 28 days.
In conclusion, the test item is neither ready biodegradable and inherently biodegradable.
