Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Tetralithium 5,5'-[vinylenebis[(3-sulphonato-4,1-phenylene)azo]]bis[3-methylsalicylate] is considered to be “Not Readily Biodegradable“ (Neuhahn, 2017). It must therefore be considered as potentially P or vP. The partition coefficient of the test item was calculated from the octanol solubility (0.022 g/l) and the water solubility (240 g/l) at 20 °C and was determined to be log Pow = - 4.0 (Jungheim, 2017). The substance is therefore neither B nor vB.

Regarding the T criterion one chronic study with the aquatic freshwater plant Lemna minor was available. The lowest determined NOEC within this study was found to be 3.1 mg/L, thus exceeding the threshold value of 0.01 mg/L (Knauer, 2018). As the substance is not classified according to any criteria relevant for the T criterion the substance is not T.

As the substnace is neither B or vB nor T, further testing with regard to the P criterion is not required and the substance can be considered as neither vP/vB nor PBT.
