Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
other: classified as an eye irritant according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008
Conclusions:
The substance is considered to be an eye irritant.
Executive summary:

The eye irritancy potential of the test material was assessed in a GLP compliant in vivo study that was based upon the procedure outlined in the guidelines of the United States EPA, Paragraph 163.81-4 “Primary eye irritation study”, Federal Register, Vol. 43 No. 163, August 22, 1978. Nine New Zealand White rabbits were exposed to the test material; the treated eye of three animals was rinsed with saline 30 seconds after exposure. The reactions to the test material were evaluated in accordance with the Draize scale after 24, 48 and 72 hours followed by further observations after 4 and 7 days.

The scores obtained for the unrinsed eyes were: cornea opacity = 1 for all animals, iris =1 (M1, M2, M3); iris =0 (F1, F2, F23), conjuctivae redness =3 (M1 -M3, F1-2); redness = 2.67 (F3), chemosis = 3 for all animals. The scores obtained for the rinsed eyes were: cornea opacity = 1, iris =0 and conjuctivae redness =3 for all animals, chemosis = 3 (M4), =2.33 (M5) = 2.67 (M6). The irritation observations were not reversible within the 7 days of observation period, however, a decrease of the irritation score was noted for conjuctivae redness and chemosis.

The substance is considered to be an eye irritant.
