Description of key information

The short-term toxicity to fish of the substance was investigated in a study conducted with Leuciscu idus according to guideline DIN 38412. No toxicity was observed at the highest tested concentration.

LC50 (96 h): > 10000 mg/L

NOEC (96h): 10000 mg/L

No data on acute aquatic toxicity to aquatic invertebrates and algae are available for sodium 1-hydroxyethanesulphonate. Given the very high structural similarity the evaluation of these endpoints can rely on the data available for sodium 2-hydroxyethanesulphonate (CAS No. 1562 -00 -1).

Sodium 1-hydroxyethanesulphonate is expected to be not acutely toxic for algae and aquatic invertebrates at concentration of > 100 mg/L.
