Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

2 studies and a calculation are included for this endpoint. One study has little detail, and is therefore used for supporting evidence only. The other experimental record quotes Log Pow values of 4.15 and 4.62 in freshwater and seawater respectively. The highest experimental value of 4.62 has been selected as the key value for chemical safety assessment purposes

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
4.62
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Weight of evidence is used for this endpoint

Wang et al determined octanol-water partition coefficients in both freshwater (pH 7) and seawater (pH 8) at 20°C. Log Pow values of 4.15 in freshwater and 4.62 in seawater are reported. As such Log Pow for TEL remains below 5 even in sea water. The derived range is consistent with the result of the supporting study from AK Chemie which gave a Log Pow at 20°C of 4.32 at 20°C.

Use of EPISuite v 4.0, KOWWIN Program (v1.67) software calculates Log Pow as 4.88. This calculated partition coefficient, whilst being marginally higher than any of the experimental results, is within the standard error of 0.34 quoted in the "Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance" for this calculation. As such it is considered suitable for use as part of the weight of evidence used for this endpoint
