Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

In a study conducted according to OECD Guideline 301F, hydroxycitronellol  proved to be readily biodegradable (70-80% biodegradation after 28 d; 80-90% biodegradation after 35 d). No significant persistence in environmental compartments is to be expected.

A log Pow of 1.59 at 25°C determined in a study conducted according to EU Method A.8. indicates a low potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms, which is supported by the low calculated BCF of ca. 22 L/kg determined with Kow. Consequently, no significant potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms is to be expected for the test item.

Based on the results on short- and long-term toxicity of hydroxycitronellol to aquatic organisms, the lowest (L(E)C50 from short-term toxicity testing was determined to be > 100 mg/L and the lowest NOEC from long-term toxicity testing was determined to be >=100 mg/L. These data indicate that the test item is not to be regarded as a substance exhibiting PBT or vPvP properties according to the criteria of REACH Directive, Article 14.3 (d) and the Technical Guidance Document (TGD) R.11 of the European Chemicals Agency.
