According to a Mackay Level I model calculation, the main target compartment for 2,2,4-(or 2,4,4)-trimethylhexane-1,6-diol will be the hydrosphere (99.94 %). The calculated Henry’s Law constant of 0.096 Pa m³/mol at 20 °C indicates low volatility of 2,2,4-(or 2,4,4)-trimethylhexane-1,6-diol from surface waters. With a log Koc of 1.3 l/kg, a low sorption potential of the substance to soil or sediment organic matter is expected (Blume scale).

The QSAR calculated rate constant for the OH sensitized photodegradation of isopropylcyclohexane is 14.5847 E-12 cm3/(molecule * s). At 500,000 OH radicals / cm3 (typical for central Europe), this corresponds to a half-life of 26.39 hours. Hydrolysis under environmental conditions can be excluded based on structural considerations. No ready biodegradation was observed in a study. The partition coefficient 1-octanol/water was determined as log Kow = 0.45 at 25 °C, indicating no potential for bioaccumulation.
