Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

KEY PARAMETERS FOR CLASSIFICATION

The registered (parent) substance 1-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]urea  (CAS No. 23843-64-3) hydrolyses rapidly in contact with water under environmentally relevant conditions. Therefore, the environmental hazard and risk assessment is based on the silanol hydrolysis product, i.e. [3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl]urea. The other, alcohol hydrolysis product, methanol, is not expected to affect the environmental hazard profile of the parent substance.

Stability

DT50 = 2.8 h (20 -25°C and pH 7, QSAR)

Degradation

Not readily biodegradable (OECD 310, RA CAS No. 23779 -32 -0)

Bioaccumulation

log Kow (parent) = -0.2 (QSAR)

log Kow (silanol hydrolysis product) = -3.3 (QSAR)

Aquatic acute toxicity

Fish

Classification according to CLP

The substance is not considered to be readily degradable and has a low potential for bioaccumulation (log Kow < 3). Acute toxicity data are available for all three trophic levels. All L(E)C50 effect values are >100 mg/L. Therefore [3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]urea (CAS 23843-64-3) is not classified and labeled according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs).
