First-aid measures
General advice:
When operating in places where dust formation can be considered significant, it is advised that chemical goggles, a respirator for inorganic dust, protective clothing and gloves be worn by the person performing first aid as well, to minimize their own exposure to the substance.
Inhalation:
Move to fresh air.
Skin contact:
Wash contaminated skin with soap and water.
Eye contact:
Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists, get medical advice/attention.
Ingestion:
Drink plenty of fluids.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed:
If in eyes, the substance can cause serious eye irritation. Rinse any dust or splashes of the substance from eyes cautiously with water for several minutes. If eye irritation persists, seek medical attention.
The substance may have hygroscopic properties. As a result, the dust can cause temporary irritation of the skin and the mucous membranes due to a drying effect.

Chemical goggles should be worn. The use of protective gloves, protective clothing and a respirator for inorganic dust is advisable. Spreading of dust from the substance to the environment should be avoided. Adequate ventilation needs to be ensured.
Environmental precautions:
The substance should not be released into the sewage system or to surface or ground waters.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:
Dry substance should be collected in suitable containers. Prevent formation of dust. Do not use compressed air for cleaning of surfaces or clothes. Contaminated surfaces should be washed with water and soap. Any leakage and spills should be absorbed or their spreading otherwise prevented.

Precautions for safe handling:
Avoid dust formation. Ensure adequate ventilation in the working areas. The substance to be used indoors only. Untreated substance should not be released into sewers or to water bodies, but must be collected and treated either as hazardous or as radioactive waste, depending on the use phase. Wash hands after use.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Appropriate engineering controls:
Ensure adequate ventilation. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practices. The level of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System applied at the workplace should be above basic, e.g. OHSAS 18001 or similar. Wash hands before breaks and after the working day.
Eye/face protection:
Chemical goggles conforming to EN166 should be worn when handling the substance.
Skin protection:
Protective clothing should be worn during work phases where there is potential for dermal exposure to areas other than hands.
Hand protection:
Natural rubber or PVC gloves conforming to EN374 should be worn when working with the substance when there is potential for dermal exposure via the hands. Breakthrough time to be greater than task duration.
Respiratory protection:
Respiratory protective equipment (protection class FFP3) to be used in operations where considerable amounts of dust are expected to arise when working with the substance.

Only indoor use. The substance should not be allowed into waterbodies or the sewage system.
Stability and reactivity
The substance is stable under normal environmental conditions and under normal operating conditions. The substance is not reactive under normal environmental conditions or under normal operating conditions. No known hazardous reactions. No particular conditions to avoid. Disposal considerations
Substance rinsing waters should be treated through a filtering membrane or by means of settling in the rinsing vessel before release. The ion-exchange columns, where the substance is washed and used, should have e.g. a 32 or a 40 µm filter at the column outlets to prevent the substance from escaping the column into water. Waste waters containing the substance are not to be released to waterbodies or the sewage system untreated.
Radioactive waters treated with the substance should be directed to a monitoring tank. The spent ion-exchange columns containing the substance are to be handled as radioactive waste and deposited into final disposal containers for radioactive waste, or when no radioactive nuclides are involved, are to be treated as hazardous waste and disposed of accordingly.
