substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test material pile. The test material burned with a yellow/blue flame, emitted yellow sparks and turned into a dark purple residue. Purple smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 1 second and no propagation of combustion was observed.

Executive summary:

The flammability of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guidelines EU Method A.10 and UN Test N.1 under GLP conditions.

A preliminary screening test was performed and no propagation of combustion of the test material along the 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. Performance of the burning rate test was not required.

Under the conditions of this study, the test material is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

The flammability of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guidelines EU Method A.10 and UN Test N.1 under GLP conditions. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

A preliminary screening test was performed and no propagation of combustion of the test material along the 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. Performance of the burning rate test was not required.

Pyrophoricity

In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for pyrophoric properties. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not possess pyrophoric properties.
