-This was made up in batches of five to ten liters in the following
proportions : 5 g. air dried horse manure, 25 g. dried sandy muck, and 1
liter tap water. After it had stood for two days the resulting infusion
was strained through silk bolting cloth. The filtrate was allowed to
stand until the turbidity disappeared, after which it was used.

Executive summary:

Data available for the structurally and functionally similar read across chemicals has been reviewed to determine the short term toxicity of aquatic invertebrate of the test chemical 2,3-bis[(4-methylbenzoyl)oxy]succinic acid (32634 -68 -7).The studies are as mentioned below:

1. The test material was used to evaluate the short term toxicity test on Daphnia magna Straus .A stock of individually reared daphnids, Daphnia magna Straus, of a single clone was maintained in a modified manure-soil medium .10 daphnids of age 8 hrs were further tested . Immobility was determined directly by placing the rack of bottles containing the animals in front of a lighted

translucent screen.

No observed effect concentration (NOEC) of test material on Daphnia magna Straus was observed to be 135 mg/l.

2. Short term toxicity of test material was evaluated on daphnia magna for 48 h.The effect concentration of test material on Daphnia magna was observed to be 374.2 mg/l.

Thus, based on the above summarised studies, 2,3-bis[(4-methylbenzoyl)oxy]succinic acid and it’s functionally similar read across substance, it can be concluded that effect concetration value is in the range of 135 - 374.2 mg/L. Thus, comparing this value with the criteria of CLP regulation, 2,3-bis[(4-methylbenzoyl)oxy]succinic acid cannot be classified for short term toxicity for aquatic invertebrate .Hence, based on the data available for the functionally similar read across, test chemical 2,3-bis[(4-methylbenzoyl)oxy]succinic acid is not likely to be toxic atleast in the dose range of 135 mg/L .
